#49 Problems/Solutions

I could write a book on every problem I've had with flash this year. I think my first real issue was with timers, so I went to the help desk. I also seem to leave out semi colons a lot so I've had to remind myself to check for them. I also keep finding weird bugs with Flash that even my teacher can't help me with, so I have to go to the Help Desk A LOT. I've had issues with getting everything done, and ended up changing my game a lot. Now I'm wrestling with using sounds and not making the game file too big.

#48 Combining Code

As a Globaloria 2 student, I'm not on a team and therefore I don't have to combine code. I can talk about last year, though. Working down to the wire made combining a little stressful. However, Austin pretty much handled it. I believe we ended up putting everything into different sub folders to keep it straight. It's sort of an annoying process that I'm glad I don't have to do this year.

This is how I felt trying to combine code last year:

#46 Most Important Things

I think it's sort of subjective as to what's most important to check for when code has an error. I'd say, in my personal experience, what I've usually done wrong is left out a curly bracket or put one in the wrong place or added an extra one. I'm just really bad with my curly brackets. I'm also usually guilty of leaving out semi colons. I think another common thing is not using an instance name or misspelling a word. These are my most common errors, but this year I've seemed to find every instance of Flash just acting weird or finding weird bugs in Flash.

#45 Most Difficult Concept

The most difficult concept to teach players about my game is just how important it is to be prepared for a hurricane. It's hard to stress that enough while also covering all the other points I want to make. I'm using a variety of internet resources. Mostly government type websites like FEMA. In addition I'm using Red Cross and the Salvation Army websites too.

#44 You May Not Recognize Yourself In 10 Years

I really really hope I'm not the same person I am now, in ten years. I mean, I'm 17. I don't want to be stuck in a 17 year old mindset forever. That being said, I hope some parts of me stay the same and that some of my tastes don't change. In 10 years... I want to be on stage. I want to be performing, done with college or getting a masters of fine art. I could be married, but I don't even know if I ever want to get married. Kids...eh. Maybe.

#43 Guns For Teachers

I'm sort of conflicted on this issue. On one hand, it could take first responders a long time to get to the school if there is an issue, but on the other hand... A kid could grab a gun, a teacher could make threats.. It seems weird. But like it said in the article, guns are an every day part of life there, and everyone is trained to use them. I guess if it's what the school thinks is best it's okay. The teachers and parents don't seem to have a problem with it.

#41 Margaret Thatcher

Margaret Thatcher was a British politician who first was a Conservative member of parliament. She rose through the ranks and eventually became Prime Minister. She advocated for privatizing state-owned industries/utilities, reforming trade unions, lowering taxes, and reducing expenditure. During her time in office, unemployment drastically rose. She developed a close political relationship with Ronald Reagan because of their mutual distrust of communism. She earned the nickname of "The Iron Lady" from the Soviets. Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev was welcomed by her, as a reformist.

#42 Reporter

I guess I'm not exactly sure what the problem is. She has a right to protect her sources until she is told otherwise. However, if she is forced to....a lot of people are going to get in trouble. Stories always cite "anonymous sources" for information, but if the people involved are subject to a gag order then obviously it did violate something. It's a weird situation because she has the right to protect her sources but if they are under gag order then they broke the law but it's hard to say whether she should have to reveal them. It's a bad situation all around.

#40 Blind Blog

I think art can be experienced through any sense. There's no reason a person who's blind can't experience that. The fact that someone set this program up is pretty amazing and I think it could be totally beneficial. It also makes me so thankful that I'm not blind because I can't even imagine what it would be like. It's kind of innovative because you're so used to never being able to touch art.

#39 Report Card

I am very happy with my grades. I just need to not get distracted before the end of the year. I guess I'd be proudest of my history grade since that's pretty much my hardest class but even that's not hard. I guess as I said history was maybe the hardest and I'd guess that Earth science was probably the easiest maybe. I don't know, they're all about the same.

#38 A Week In Pictures

This is picture is incredibly powerful. The sister of a fallen solider is laying in front of his grave at the Arlington National Cemetery. He served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. I guess because my dad used to be in the military, it kind of hits me that that could have been him if he hadn't been lucky enough to not go to war. This picture essentially sums up the emotional toll that family members take when their family goes off to war.

#37 3D Computer

I think the new computer is honestly not that practical. It looks really hard to use & kind of awkward. I hope they don't become popular because I don't want one.. I applaud the creator for trying to take something to the next level, but I just hate 3D. If you can't feel what you touch then it's kind of pointless.

#36 A Week in Pictures

These are the Syrian people looking at the mass destruction of the Aleppo Media center. It's tragic what's happening there. People are dying, killing each other, suffering...for what? I can't explain how badly I want to  see that war end. Every time I hear of another innocent child dying, it breaks my heart.

#35 Sequestrian

It appears that Congress once again is being childish. I do think it will get resolved as the deadline approaches like it usually does. If not, I don't know what my and many other families are going to do. The airport is already terrible enough without more waits. It's also scary to think crimes may take longer to solve. I just hope it doesn't happen.

#34 Spring Break

I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing for spring break yet. Hopefully I'm going to Universal Orlando with my grandma and cousin, but we haven't made any solid plans yet. I would also love to just sleep alllll week. I also will just be getting done with a play, so I'll be super super tired. I also am going to have to start studying for those dreaded AP exams.

#32 Standoff

I think that would be the most terrifying situation to be in and I can't imagine what would ever drive someone to kidnap a child. The bus driver that risked his life to save those kids is a hero. I think the man that kidnapped the little boy is completely insane, and based on what neighbors said about him that's probably true. Who knows why he did it - maybe he's mad about the gun debate, maybe he's mad at the government, maybe he just hates kids. Or maybe he's just insane. It sounds like the little boy is coping pretty well but I can't imagine that there aren't some kind of lingering effects from that. Hopefully the man that kidnapped him really did treat him well and make it as least terrifying as possible for him.

#31 Flying Cars

I do not believe flying cars will ever become a "common" thing for the average person but who knows. I think they sound incredibly taxing on the environment, so that's definitely a negative and a factor against their use. 100 years from now, I think travel will be entirely different. It has to change in order to save the environment and the world. Mass transit, hydroelectric/air powered/electric cars will probably be common and more people will probably walk/bike/carpool places. At least that's the hope.

#30 What's Up With The Weather

The weather has been going quite crazy this winter, with very little snow. And now, it's going between warm and freezing weekly. I think this is pretty much due to a weather pattern that comes and goes every so often. However, I do believe in global warming. I think the effects of these weather patterns are being intensified by global warming and I think it will continue to get worse until we have either no winter at all or extreme cold and blizzards.

#29

I think I have learned more about my game in the process of my demo. I think this is because you have to really make sure you get your info correct and research well. I've learned a lot more about emergency supply kits in the process and I'm beginning to learn about emergency evacuations and hurricanes. I've taken the learning process into my hands by learning new types of code by myself and drawing by myself. I can continue to improve my self-learning skills by doing this in the future.

#27 Obamarama

I didn't ever really think about the fact that Obama's taken the Oath of Office 4 times, well kind of. One of the times the words got messed up and they started over so I guess that wasn't a complete take. That was during his 1st presidency. This time around it was because the inauguration fell on a Sunday, so they had a small ceremony that day, and then a big public one on Monday, MLK Jr. Day.  I would assume the other president to do this would be Franklin Roosevelt, considering he was elected 4 times. He was elected in 1932, 1937, 1941, and 1945.

#28 Laptops, Desktops, Tablets, Oh MY!

I think each kind of computer will have it's place in the future - desktops are good for things like coding and doing business work. Laptops on the other hand provide more convenience. Tablets are super-duper convenient but not as good for business stuff and definitely not good for coding. I don't know which is the best. I can't say one is ultimately superior than another. I like the desktop setup the best, though I wish they were better desktops. I also wish we had tablets to draw with. That would be the ideal coding/drawing set-up and I think it would help us all immensely.

#26 Gun Control

I'm torn on agreeing or disagreeing with stronger gun laws. The part of the 2nd Amendment that no one seems to remember is that it says "well regulated militia" not "any citizen who wants one." However, instead of introducing new laws that some argue may violate civil rights, why not amend the amendment? That's the whole point of the Constitution - that it could be changed to reflect the times. Well, the times of muskets are over and semi-automatics are a whole different story. Banning them probably won't stop much of the crime - handguns commit the vast, vast majority of gun crimes. Criminals don't follow laws - that's what makes them criminals. But I'm not sure getting semis off the streets is such a bad idea. & how about instead of just taking guns away from everyone deemed mentally ill, we instead focus on helping the mentally ill. In short, I don't know and I don't want to talk about it with people whose minds are so set in stone by party lines that they aren't willing to see compromise.

#25 Facebook

I think the "secret" Facebook is about to reveal is another search engine to rival Google. It probably won't do very well. I do use Facebook, though not nearly as much as I used to. I use to mostly to talk to people, keep up with family, and share pictures. It's kind of dying a slow death right now, though.

#24 Drag and Drop

Drag and drop is an interesting kind of gameplay. It's unlike anything that Team Milkapedia did last year, so it's good to keep expanding my Flash knowledge. However, I don't like that it is required to be in the demo somewhere, because then there's a lot less self-learning. Anyway, the way Austin uses his drag and drop is pretty cool, and I do think it's a nice tool. I think this level is going to be the only one I use it for though.
